Parents often ask…

1 Are group classes lower quality than private lessons?
Not at Island Music School! Our small-group format pairs two teachers with just 4–8 students. That means individual attention + ensemble skills, with peers who boost motivation, accountability, and stage confidence. Many students progress faster in this model than in traditional one-on-one lessons.

When are private lessons appropriate? They’re ideal for audition or recital prep, rapidly addressing a specific technique gap, or advanced repertoire coaching. A popular option is a hybrid plan: weekly small-group for band skills + periodic private check-ins for targeted goals.

Prefer 1:1? Ask us about hybrid plans that combine the best of both worlds.
2 Do students actually get to perform?
Yes—live performance is at the heart of what we do. Our school specializes in preparing students to be stage ready, not just lesson ready. The goal is to build the confidence to perform in front of family, peers, and the community. NoteLab Studio students do 2 shows a year, and MusicPro students perform in 4 shows at professional venues across the Keys.

Performing is not an afterthought — it’s the core of our teaching philosophy.
3 What ages do you teach?
We offer programs for ages 0–18, from early-childhood KinderBeats classes through advanced band programs like MusicPro Elite. We also teach private lessons for adults and are always excited to welcome adult learners to our community. Adults are invited to join our jam nights, hosted several times a year, to connect and perform with fellow musicians. Adult beginners welcome — it’s never too late to start!
4 What instruments can my child learn?
Students can study piano, guitar, bass, drums, ukulele, voice, and more—multi-instrument exploration is encouraged!
5 How does practice work at home?
We use the Better Practice app—complete with assignments, progress tracking, and gamified features that make practice more exciting.
